Brought to you by the Band-Aids Management Team

When Plaque Is A Good Thing
By Lauren Henschen, Manager

Let me take you back to Summer '06 for a moment. It was our first season. The Band-Aids were Upper D league. We won two games the entire season. The group was comprised primarily of my theatre major friends from college and a few other people I knew from various walks of life. Believe it or not, the team made it to the semi-finals as the result of a gutsy effort to win won for Coach Bob the night of his big car accident.

Flash forward two years. Much has change. Our team has improved by 400% and we consistently have really good seasons. We knew going into our final tournament night that we couldn't get ahead of ourselves. So when we faced off against Doc & Eddy's in the first game, we kept our wits and just played a good, solid game. We've never played two back to back before, so I didn't know if it would work to our advantage or not. I know I was pooped, but the groove of energy was a fun wave to ride. And for our men that had been rotating, it's like they finally got a full game's worth of action.

There is so much to write about. The fan attendance was superb. Natalie ran sound. We were missing Rachel, Koryn, Amanda, Brian and Aaron! Those people are like critical to this team, and we still kicked ass. We'll be moving up a division next season, returning to Upper D, our old stomping grounds. The Empty Pitchers have agreed to move up with us as well.

WE WON THE TOURNAMENT! It still hasn't really set in for me. Even with the free round of drinks at Casey's after the game, the win just sorta happened. The undefeated Sluggers toppled like Jenga. We were all set to face the juggernauts who beat us the last time, but were disappointed to meet very little resistance. Both teams we played were short one player, so that gave us a little more room in the outfield. And that's where we were hitting them, so it was perfect.

My favorite play of the game was actually three plays. The three plays Charcho made at third base in one inning. Talk about a close-out!

I also want to give a special thanks to Amy, who bailed us out of being short one girl. You rock, Amy! And also thanks to Bob, who stepped in to pitch. What other team has a backup pitcher that good? None!

Well, the Fall season will begin the first weekend of September, so we have a whole month to cruise. Hopefully my arm will heal so I can throw properly again. Thanks everyone for a great season. I expect everyone back for the fall. We've got a great team here. Check out the photos page for a post-victory team pic!
