Sluggers Pack A Punch
By Lauren Henschen, Manager
It was the first Band-Aids game I have ever
watched from the sidelines. And it was a whole new experience, I assure
you. Our fans have the wittiest commentary around and I got to hear
it all firsthand. This night was a night for other firsts too. It
was the first game with our brand new scoreboard too!!! And wasn't
it spectacular. It changed the whole fan experience! Watching those
digits spin around made the excitement and anticipation all the more
heightened from the bleachers.
Sporting my bright yellow managerial blazer purchased earlier in the
day from Savers at a price of $4, I was maybe the happiest I've ever
been at a game coaching first base. Watching the people I know, love
and play with week to week have a strong showing at bat and on the
bases. Before I knew it, we were up 15-5!
And then trouble struck. It's not that we were having excessive errors
either. Those Sluggers just had one solid inning of GREAT hits. Right
in the gap. Right down the middle!
It was a tough loss. And I have a feeling we'll meet the Sluggers
again in the tournament, but next time, we'll be the ones walking
away with smiles on our faces. Aww, who am I kidding, we're always
smiling? WHY? Because we have awesome fans, a cool mascot, great players,
and even a baby who wears our colors to the game!
Towards the end of our game, the Empty Pitchers showed up to get ready
for their 9 'o clock (they won, congrats EPs!). They have a long-haired
chihuahua as their mascot. He's cool, I mean, but not as cool as Fresh.
I started to dream that he and Fresh could be friends, but Fresh remarked
that he does not associate with other, lesser mascots. He has a lot
of pride in our team, and so do I.
My play of the game goes to Byrd's diving catch at shortstop. The
other team verbially exclaimed, "no way!" Way to step it
up while Noel's on his honeymoon. Oh, and congrats on that whole marriage
thing, Noel. You are the first male Band-Aid to get married whilst
being a Band-Aid. And thanks also to Natalie, who came out to support
the team. She'll be back next week to help me stay strong on the disabled
list. Woot Woot!
