Stingers Become A Minor Irritation
By Lauren Henschen, Manager

I know I'm not the first one to say the late games are always tough for us. And our game against the Stingers was no exception. Our fielding was riddled with ridiculous errors and our batting was like fielding practice for the Stingers outfield. Despite the fact that they played with only 9 players on the field, The Stingers gave us an unexpected run for our money. It was not until the game seemed to be out of our control that we realized what had happened and stepped up to meet the challenge...only too late.

Once again, the Band-Aids sported a 12 person batting order...something we can only do when we have an equal number of male and female players at the game. It works to the advantage of fairness, but not always to the advantage of the team.

My main struggle for this game began hours before I arrived at Kiwanis, when there was an explosion at my apartment complex and the power suddenly went out right when I was finalizing our song playlist and about to export it to my ipod. The only problem: even though my laptop could run on internal battery power, all my music is stored on my external hard drive and would not be accesible without power. Luckily we had that big old green external power source that SAM had purchased for the team at the beginning of last season. I was able to plug a powerstrip into it and power my printer and external hard drive in the darkness of my room. The obstacle that kept arising was that people kept calling me to tell me they couldn't make it, so I kept having to switch the order around. And just when I had it all perfectly figured out for a 10-person batting order, I realized we had even numbers, and had to redo the lineup for a seventh time.

Long story short, I spent about 4 hours staring at a computer screen in my dark dark room and developed a serious headache. Not only that, I was scheduled to have surgery Monday morning and had been forbidden to take any painkillers the whole week.

So if I am any representation of this team, we were just screwed going into this one. And we did the best we could.

Next week will be even better, as we face the team that is undeservedly in first place for our bracket, The Sluggers. I know, I know, what's up with all these "S" teams? Stingers, Sluggers, Slammers? More like Slackers, Stragglers, and Suckers!

But on a positive note, my play of the game goes to Koryn for making a crucial catch at home plate to force an out that would have otherwise been a score for the opposing team. Way to hang tough, Koryn. We recognize that 90% of the balls thrown to you at home plate come from wild, desperate attempts at plays where the ball is hard, fast, and wildly inaccurate at times.

Go Band-Aids!

POST BLOG NOTE: The position of rover was tried, but seemed to pose more issues than solutions and we will be returning to regular outfield formation for the weeks to come.

Nobody Likes to Get Stung Like That
By Amanda Telloni, Assistant Manager

We really should've won Sunday's game. The Stingers had only 3 outfielders and we were popping up to the shortstop and 3rd basemen every other player. I know the 9 o'clock games have never treated us well, but we need to get over the 9pm slump and win one (not tie, but win). There were really poor choices on when to throw and that definitely allowed at least 5 runs across the plate. I think that sometimes we get overzealous to make outstanding plays when, all in all, just holding the ball would be the best choice. There was a few outstanding plays such as the throw from Byrd to Korky at home for a double play and also a double play turner from me to Byrd. We were slacking a bit on Sunday, but I know we can rise to the occasion per usual and put another "W" on the Band-Aids end.

On another note, I hope you are doing well, Lo. We are all thinking about you and I know you'll be a great manager outside of the foul lines, but you will be missed dearly as a great rover for this season.
