Patiots Missing Key Winning Elements:
Tom Brady Says "Not Again"
By Lauren Henschen, Manager

I'm going to keep this short. Mostly because I have nothing to say that we haven't shown for ourselves on the field this season. We're 8 and 0 now. That's nearly more wins in one season than the Band-Aids accumulated over the past year's seasons combined. We've got a good group on this team. A really good group. And the more we play together, the better we shall become.

Some of my favorite plays of the game were:

• When field manager Bob turned on the sprinklers pre-game to get the field in better condition for his favorite team. Ask him, we totally are.
• The fact that once again we pushed our luck with the 2 homeruns per inning rule. It's nice to have to yell, "okay guys, no more homers this inning, alright?"
• The stellar force out at first / tag out at third combo play. Had those throws not been totally accurate, they would have scored one if not two runs. Luckily, our players were spot ON.
• Amy's hustle to first base and turn to second, turning a single into a double, and bringing herself that much closer to home plate.
• Also Amy's RBI for Noel...who stayed on third base the previous at-bat simply to enable her to bring him home. Sometimes I really do wish we kept stats. :)
• Guillermo's relay-throw in from the outfield, which enabled us to get a force-out at home. Outs at home are my favorite because they exemplify my double-good theory. It's good because we got the out. It's double good because we also stopped them from scoring a run. (NOTE: Double bad is when you spill an entire pitcher of Tang in your fridge. Not only do you have to clean basically every item in your fridge, but you also have to make a new pitcher of Tang. Another example of double good is when you get a Monday off. Because not only is it a 3-day weekend, but you also have a 4 day work-week right after it!)

We ended up taking it pretty easy this week once we saw victory written in the stars. But next week we're going to need all the focus, attention and stamina we can muster. No one knows yet who we will be playing against in our 6 o' clock game. But it could potentially be the Slammers, an unknown commodity who placed 1st on another field. Let's keep our heads up, our gloves down and fill those bleachers. We're going to win this thing!

Band-Aids Expatriate Patriots From Playoffs
By Charles Pheanis, Assistant Manager

The Band-Aids' first ball game of the 2008 spring season was a great start. Everyone played a solid game on the field and at the plate, which is exactly what we are going to need to win our next game. Matthew, Lauren, and I started the evening with a little batting practice, which always helps with confidence at the plate. As we walked to the field with Lauren's new futuristic aggressive looking boom box, some of the Patriot's players asked if we were ready for them, and were openly enthusiastic about playing "the team with the tunes." It takes courage to face your executioner with a grin.

The Patriots embodied their title. They truly showed their love and support of the softball nation. They may have been a little older, and a little slower, but they were sliding in hot to third. Good game Patriots. Best of luck in your future seasons...may they never end.

Speaking of sliding into third, my play of the game goes to Byrd and Brian who had a big league double play. As Byrd fielded the grounder he recognized that the Patriot's speedy short stop might out-run the play at second, so he went for the easy out at first with a throw to Brian. But Brian and Byrd were on their game and immediately realized that the runner was planing on going to third since Byrd was tied up with making the throw to first. His plans were foiled as Byrd somehow beat the runner to third, caught a hot pass from Brian and made the tag as the runner slid into third. Well played gentlemen.

There were many other performances worthy of recognition, but T-rex on the mound deserves a ton of credit. I can recall only two balls pitched, and not a single walk. Great game Amanda. As long as you make them swing, our ever improving defense is there to make the outs.

I'm not sure why the game was called almost 15 minutes prior to the end of the hour. I was under the impression that the run rule was not in effect for the playoffs. In the end it was probably a blessing, because we need to stay healthy, and there's no need for anyone to risk injury. Not to pick on Natalie, but we don't need anymore players in the stands. We will all be thinking happy thoughts for Natalie this week as she gets her knee repaired. Godspeed.

When we received our season champion shirts, everything became too real and it started to sink in. Eight consecutive victories of big hits and tenacious d. All were eager to celebrate the win. The caravan to Casey Moore's was long and included several bicyclists. It was a good turn out, just like our fan section. There was an excitement in the air, and you could feel it at Casey's as we brainstormed songs for next week's song themes. The anxiousness and anticipation was thick, and we carried on despite the late hour. The team table was a warm bright light in a sea of cold drinks.

Bring on the noise Band-Aids. Let's make magic next Sunday. Let's give crowd what it wants. More music. Two games worth. Two victory songs.

Gimme 2 Tylenol, I Have Playoff Fever
By Amanda Telloni, Assistant Manager

Nothing like a Sunday night under the lights...especially when there is playoff energy. As you can tell from our previous blogs, The Band-Aids have been playing exceptionally well and we really were a force this past Sunday. I don't need to get into every detail of our defeat against the Patriots, but I will say that we dominated the field in multiple ways and here is how:

1. Great warm-up with all the Band-Aids on the field. We've never had a warm-up quite like that before where we were all lined up on the foul line tossing the ball back and forth. It really felt like we were professional ball players at Wrigley field (I also really enjoyed the throws that Charch and I had when he ran under the sprinklers to get the ball).
2. Awesome hits. Sure, the Patriots didn't have the best defense in the league, but we really know how to score some runs and take advantage of situations. Everyone made great contact, but I'd have to say watching Tracy scorch those balls into left field on Sunday was amazing. Also, Noel, you're like unstoppable. When you hit the ball I hear our fans just get crazy saying things like "Oh my" or "Geez" or my favorite "Wow."
3. Good communication on the field. There was a great double play by B. Young and Drewface from 1st to 3rd. You two really looked good out there. Not to mention the relay throw from the outfield to Noel to Koryn for the out at home. If we weren't talking to our players, that would've never had happened.
4. The new boombox. Our songs normally sound good, but not that good. It was a real perk warming up to "Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego" and having it be heard loud and exceptionally clear.
5. Amy's spirit. That chick is great and I love how she is all about helping out the team and doing what is best for The Band-Aids. She also makes a killer couscous.
6. Our fans. Once again, than you for all your support. I was especially fond of the bicycle dream team that came this past Sunday with Popsicles in mouth. Oh and it really was special that they know our nicknames. Granted, they are on the back of our jersey's, but the fact that Rachel's dad is saying "C'mon Byrdman" when Drew gets up to bat is so special.

Alright, I now have 8 dollars in my pocket for our 8th win and a fabulous medium cotton season championship t-shirt that we were awarded for our undefeated season. Speaking of which, WTF Anton Sport?!? They didn't show up for the game before us against Jokers Schwild. I wonder if our beat down had anything to do with it...
